Left/Right debate stars state lawmakers, national columnists

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Current and former state legislators dotted the College of the Ozarks’ Left/Right Debate Fall Forum.

Each year’s forum hosts a prominent national figure, this year: nationally syndicated columnists Michelle Malkin and Ruben Navarette. Malkin and Navarette will debate this evening.

In addition to the columnists’ debate, former Republican House Speaker Catherine Hanaway and Democratic Sen. Scott Sifton debated yesterday evening. Republican Rep. Travis Fitzwater faced off against Democratic Rep. Joshua Peters this morning and Republican Rep. Paul Curtman and Democratic Rep. Tracy McCreery debated then as well.

The debate moderator is former Rep. Casey Guernsey.

“It was a really outstanding forum with participants from all the U.S. military academies and College of the Ozarks,” said Guernsey, who is a College of the Ozarks alumnus.

The annual forum is presented by the Keeter Center for Character Education. The Center strives to provide programs to enhance character development and promote good citizenship. Center staff, 35 students, and 6 facilitors hosted the three-day event.

The forum featured additional guests from visiting military academies and Evangel University who are also participating in the in-depth take on conservatism versus liberalism.
