Hanaway Unveils Support for Pro-Life Measures

Hanaway Becomes First Gubernatorial Candidate to Support Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act

Columbia- While on a campaign stop in Columbia, former federal prosecutor and gubernatorial candidate Catherine Hanaway announced her support for measures designed to strengthen protections for the innocent unborn. Hanaway made the announcement while building support for her new coalition Women for Hanaway as part of her Restore Values to Missouri Tour.

The Pro-Life protections Hanaway supports include:

  • The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act which bans abortions not medically necessary after an unborn child reaches 20 weeks gestation. 20 weeks gestation is the first point when a child can yawn, stretch, make faces and feel pain.
  • Defunding Planned Parenthood and shifting the taxpayer dollars for women healthcare to Federally Qualified Health Centers.
  • Increasing the punishments for the sale of fetal organs to where state penalties match federal penalties.

“Without the Right to Life, all other rights are meaningless,” said Hanaway. “Recent videos have made it clear that Planned Parenthood no longer holds women’s health as its top priority and hard-earned tax dollars should not fund its barbaric practices. The taxpayer money is better served to provide health services to women at the 200 Federally Qualified Health Centers service sites in Missouri compared to 14 Planned Parenthood locations.”

Hanaway’s proposals today continue a long and storied career of being a staunch advocate for pro-life measures. Hanaway was a key leader in the passing of the 24 hour abortion ban, ending state funding of abortions and was a nationwide leader in prosecuting child exploitation crimes.
