Rep. Haahr Files Legislation Combating Sex Trafficking of a Child

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rep. Elijah Haahr has filed legislation that would expand the crime of sexual trafficking of a child to include the advertisement of a child participating in a commercial sexual act. Haahr filed House Bill 1562 on Tuesday, Dec. 1, which marks the opening of pre-filing in the Missouri House of Representatives.

The legislation is similar to federal legislation sponsored by Congresswoman Ann Wagner.  Her bill, also known as the Stop Advertising Victims of Exploitation (SAVE) Act, was recently passed by the United States House of Representatives.

“As chairman of the Missouri Human Trafficking Task Force I am honored to champion efforts in Missouri to combat human trafficking. This legislation will give law enforcement and prosecutors the tools they need to target and stop those who advertise trafficking victims.” said Haahr, R-Springfield.

Senator Bob Onder will join Representative Haahr and Congresswoman Wagner by filing a companion bill in the Missouri Senate.
