Rep. Hinson will not seek re-election

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Representative Dave Hinson will not be seeking re-election to the House, but will instead run for 2nd District Commissioner in Franklin County.

“While I’m not running again for the House, I still have the desire to serve the public. So, I’m running for commissioner back in Franklin County,” Hinson said. “I will be able to hit the ground running day one from my experience in government. I really want to help make the county more fiscally responsible and tackle the debt that has been amassed.”

Last year, Governor Nixon appointed Democrat Jeff Maune to fill the seat, and he is running in 2016, as well.

“It really came down to the fact that I wanted to continue to serve the public, but be closer to our business year round,” Hinson surmised.

During his time in the House, he has served as the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee and is now the Chairman of the Local Government Committee.

“I would have to say I’m most proud of work as chairman of public safety committee,” he reflected on his six years in the House. “I am proud that we were able to give the public the right to decide the transportation funding issue, and even though it didn’t ultimately become law we passed through the General Assembly the juvenile sex offender registry that hopefully will be signed in the future.”

As of the most currently filed reports, Hinson leaves office with over $15,000 on hand that he can transfer to his commissioner race.
