Brunner wins conservative straw poll

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Alliance for Freedom held a straw poll over the course of 11 days earlier this month to determine where the Republican gubernatorial candidates ranked.

Businessman John Brunner came out on top with over 50 percent of all votes in the informal straw poll. Nearly 900 Missourians responded to the straw poll, and Brunner pulled in 449 out of the 873.

Former House Speaker Catherine Hanaway took second place with 202 votes, and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder and former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens had 86 and 83 votes, respectively, for third and fourth place. Fifty-three respondents were undecided.

Straw PollThe Missouri Alliance for Freedom noted that while the poll was unscientific, it showed where “conservative members and followers of Missouri Alliance for Freedom are leaning in the upcoming gubernatorial primary which is still seven months away.”

The organization also noted that it showed how well volunteer bases could motivate and mobilize their campaign bases to vote in an online poll.
