Missouri Soybean Association endorses Schaefer for AG

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Soybean Association (MSA), one of the most influential agriculture lobbies in the state, announced their endorsement of Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, for attorney general.

The MSA notes that Schaefer has been a “friend of agriculture” during his time in office.

“Kurt Schaefer has been a solid supporter of soybean farmers’ priorities and for all of agriculture in the Senate,” MSA director Ronnie Russell said. “He stands with agriculture on key issues, including pushing back against frivolous lawsuits and federal overreach in the EPA Waters of the U.S. and Clean Power Plan regulations. He has also shown outstanding commitment to fight for Missouri’s best interest when it comes to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and management of the Missouri River.”

Schaefer was grateful for the endorsement.

“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of the MSA,” Schaefer said. “As someone who has fought to protect Missouri agriculture in the Missouri General Assembly and in courtrooms throughout the state, I know firsthand the importance of Missouri’s farmers to Missouri’s future.”

The MSA carries a lot of weight within the state’s agricultural sector, given soybeans are Missouri’s most profitable crop.

Schaefer has battled with University of Missouri law professor Josh Hawley in the Republican primary for attorney general. The winner of that contest will face either St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman or former Cass County prosecutor Teresa Hensley from the Democratic ticket
