TWMP: Sen. Scott Sifton and SJR 39

On this episode of This Week in Missouri Politics, Scott Faughn talks to state Sen. Scott Sifton about opposition to SJR 39, the bill’s impact, the Senate Democrats’ filibuster against the resolution and some of the background behind that record-setting filibuster. They also discuss his reasons not to run for attorney general, and why he values his role in the Senate.

On the Opinion Maker panel, Faughn is joined by Collin Reischman, UFCW Local 655 communications director; Executive Director of the ACLU of Missouri Jeffrey Mittman; Ferguson Mayor James Knowles; and Rep. Paul Curtman, R-Pacific, debate the specifics of SJR 39, its chances of passing at the ballot box, whether it’s an issue of discrimination or religious liberty and the politics of such a law. They also discuss the debacle between the city of Ferguson and the U.S. Department of Justice, and, of course, they discuss the presidential primary and Donald Trump’s rise to prominence.
