Release: DED releases March 2016 Jobs Report

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri’s unemployment rate for March held at 4.2 percent, according to seasonally adjusted data released today by the Missouri Department of Economic Development. The national unemployment rate was 5.0 percent for March.

Over the past year, Missouri’s unemployment rate has fallen by 1.1 percentage points, while the number of jobless Missourians has dropped by more than 30,000.

Following February’s revised employment growth of 10,700 new jobs, Missouri’s net nonfarm payroll employment for March was little changed, decreasing by 1,500 jobs. Still, several industries added jobs in March including trade, transportation & utilities (up by 2,200 jobs), financial activities (up by 1,400 jobs), and accommodation & food services (up by 2,200 jobs).
