White to miss session next week with neck surgery

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Rep. Bill White, R-Joplin, is going on the DL for a four-level neck surgery that may keep him on the sidelines of the ongoing fight to override the governor’s veto on Rep. Holly Rehder’s “paycheck protection bill.”

The bill is currently on the calendar to be overridden, but has not yet been brought up on the suspicion that the Republican caucus lacks the necessary votes needed to overturn the union-opposed measure.

White is a solid yes vote on the bill, but every vote counts for the caucus. The representative noted that he needed the surgery as soon as possible, given that he had little to no strength in his right arm and could hardly lift his elbow above his chest.

He said that he should miss a week on the floor after the surgery Friday, and he expects to recover by the Monday after next.
