Who’s hot and who’s not (April 29 issue)

Who’s hot and who’s not is a regular feature sidebar in The Missouri Times print edition. After much consideration, we decided we’d start posting them online for readers the weekend after the issue. Enjoy!

hot

Monsanto is HOT

After announcing a $400 million research site expansion last week to the St. Louis area — gaining notoriety from Gov. Jay Nixon and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay — it’s hard not to congratulate the company on their efforts to bring more jobs to the region.

“Kerfuffle” is HOT

It’s been more than a week, but the word hasn’t removed itself from Missouri politico lingo.

Sen. David Pearce is HOT

Sen. David Pearce, R-Warrensburg, took on the challenge as chair of the Senate Joint Committee on Education and produced results. Last week his higher education funding formula bill, Senate Bill 437, was perfected. The work done by Pearce and the Joint Committee has proven to be effective.

Andy Van Slyke is HOT

The former St. Louis Cardinals centerfielder is selling his Ladue home partially because his coaching career is beginning to take off. Many are speculating he will be offered a managerial position during the off season.

not

The weather is NOT

We’re tired of the rain and occasional reappearance of winter. Plus, we’re ready to witness the legislative softball tournament. Bring on the good weather.

Marcus Jones is NOT

Marcus Jones is not hot for recording his friend using a stolen car and running over Southeast Missouri State University provost Ron Rosati, Paul Schell and Laura Sheridan.
