Wiemann receives Missouri Centurion Award

ST. LOUIS – Rep. John Wiemann has been recognized by the Missouri Century Foundation as their pick for the best legislator of 2016.

The Missouri Centurion Award is given to the legislator of the year recognized by the free market-promoting, conservative group for his work on HB 1722, which would further regulate public employee labor organizations.

“It’s a great honor. It was definitely unexpected and appreciated,” Wiemann said. “The Missouri Century Foundation is a great organization that works for good causes and they try to help improve accountability in our government… I certainly think they do a lot of good things.”

The Missouri Century Foundation primarily seeks to stop the expansion of the Affordable Care Act, protect the First Amendment right to assembly, instill more transparency in higher education, and reform public unions. Gregg Keller, the chairman of the organization says he believes the freshman representative could be a major asset to support that platform in the years to come.

“Rep. John Wiemann is a leader to watch in the Missouri legislature,” Keller said. “He worked tirelessly throughout this year’s session to protect taxpayers by advocating for government union reform. We look forward to working with him to educate the public and the members of the state legislature on the need to reform government unions.”
