JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon is heading out of the country again this month, this time to tour three European countries. From July 8 to July 16, Nixon will travel to the United Kingdom, Ireland and Switzerland in another economic development trip.
Most recently, Nixon travelled to Cuba in late May to explore agricultural opportunities in the island nation which is set to become a large target of American investors and traders.
Nixon’s newest trip will seek to strengthen business relations within the three countries, especially with leaders of companies that already employ thousands of Americans, like GKN Aerospace which is England-based but manufactures airplane parts in Hazelwood.
“This is an important opportunity to showcase Missouri’s strengths and economic stability on a global stage,” Gov. Nixon said. “From Hartmann Packaging in Rolla to CertainTeed in Jonesburg to Bull Moose Industries in St. Louis and Gerald, a growing number of European companies are investing and creating jobs in the Show-Me State. Competing in the global economy demands a proactive approach, and I’m looking forward to strengthening our relationships with even more global businesses next week.”
The trip will begin in Dublin, Ireland, where the governor will meet with the American Chamber of Commerce in the city, and he will later meet with the leadership of AB Mauri, and then the United States Ambassador to Ireland Kevin O’Malley. Nixon will arrive in London July 12 to take part in the Farnborough International Airshow which will feature leaders from GKN Aerospace and Boeing. And finally, the delegation will go to Zurich to speak with executives at Nestle and Schnidler, an elevator manufacturer, and US Ambassador Susan LeVine.
First Lady Georganne Nixon will accompany the governor alongside Missouri House Speaker Todd Richardson, State Sen. Dave Schatz, State Sen. Jason Holsman, and State Rep. Kip Kendrick.
