Police groups endorse Schmitt

GLENDALE, Mo. – The Missouri Fraternal Order of Police, the St. Louis Police Officers Association and the St. Louis County Police Association endorsed treasurer candidate Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Glendale, on Thursday, citing his work to make communities safer.

The groups represent thousands of police officers across the state.

“Eric Schmitt has supported law enforcement officers across our state and demonstrated his commitment to police and their families time and again,” said Kevin Ahlbrand, president of Missouri FOP. “Eric has earned the support of the Missouri FOP because he stands up for those who protect us. I am personally honored to support him for state treasurer because I know he will continue to be a strong voice for law enforcement officers in Missouri.”

Schmitt appreciated the endorsement of the police organizations.

“Missouri law enforcement officials put their lives on the line every day,” Schmitt said. “I have a special appreciation for the sacrifices these men and women and their families make. I am deeply honored by their support for my campaign for State Treasurer, and I will continue to ensure our law enforcement officers receive the support they need while they keep Missourians safe.”

One area where Ahlbrand cited Schmitt’s help was the recently signed legislation banning ticket quotas.

“Eric knows the difficult job our officers face every day and has led the way in reforming our justice system to make it more fair for our officers and citizens,” he said. “Eric has made sure police officers’ first priority is to serve and protect our communities, and not worry about being forced to meet traffic tickets quotas. Our cities are better and safer because of his work.”

Schmitt is running unopposed for the Republican nomination for treasurer. He will face either Judy Baker or Pat Contreras in November.
