Democrats hit Blunt over Trump’s foreign policy

From Missouri Democrats:

Senator Blunt’s Silence Deafens as his Presidential Nominee Threatens to Tear Down U.S. Foreign Policy

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Senator Blunt, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, continues to stand behind his presidential candidate Donald Trump even after Trump has tried to dismantle the international post-war order, ruin relationships with NATO allies, and has now publicly requested that an enemy of the United States compromise our national security and commit cyberattacks against Americans.

In a press conference this morning, Presidential nominee Donald Trump personally called on Russia to hack and release Hillary Clinton’s emails, saying that the nation would be “rewarded” if they did. He also continued to argue for dismantling the post-war international order, doubling down on his refusal to commit to defending our NATO allies, proposing to re-negotiate the Geneva Conventions and underlining his support for torture.

Senator Blunt is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and often brings up the seriousness of the intelligence briefings he receives in his stump speech on the campaign trail. Meanwhile, he has remained silent and been unwavering in the support of his nominee as Trump has threatened to ruin alliances, diminish America’s standing in the world, and now called for cyberattacks on Americans.

“As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee who routinely mentions that he receives updates with grave national security information, can Senator Blunt look Missourians in the eye and say that he wants Donald Trump receiving those updates when he’s just personally asked Russia to hack an American?” asked Will Baskin-Gerwitz, Missouri Democratic Party spokesman. “If Senator Blunt wants to retain any shred of credibility on foreign policy, he needs to immediately condemn the newest threat to America’s international standing: his own presidential candidate.”
