WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Speaker Pro Tem Denny Hoskins won the Republican primary for the 21st Senate District, beating former Rep. Mike McGhee.
Hoskins was expected to win with the support of outgoing Sen. David Pearce and much of his funders also supporting him. McGhee had lost to Pearce in a primary for the seat four years ago.
Hoskins had outraised McGhee $230,000 to $12,000 in the contest. McGhee couldn’t find the same financial support this year as he had four years ago.
He will go on to face Democrat ElGene Ver Dught in November. Ver Dught lost to Pearce in 2012. Pearce won 65 percent of the vote.
