KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Rep. Sheila Solon, R-Independence, Rep. Nick King, R-Liberty, and Rep. Bonnaye Mims, D-Kansas City, were defeated Tuesday in their bids for re-election.
Solon lost with 45 percent of the vote to Dan Stacy, who campaigned against her on her opposition to right-to-work. He was funded in part by the anti-labor Humphreys family, who gave $25,000 to his campaign.
Solon’s loss was one of several victories for David Humphreys’ anti-labor campaign. Rep. Nick King, R-Liberty, also lost to an opponent who opposed his vote on right-to-work.
On the other side of the aisle, Mims lost to Brown despite out-raising him 10-to-1. Brown was recruited in part by the school board, which has long sought to oust Mims.
Mims received only about a third of the votes in her district, losing to Brown by more than 1,000 votes.
