Democratic Party chairman files ethics complaints against Greitens

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Almost two days after the primary polls closed, Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Roy Temple has filed three ethics complaints against Republican nominee for governor, Eric Greitens, and organizations that donated to him.

The complaints center around campaign finance, with Temple believing the campaign and organizations illegally coordinated and efforted to conceal the identity of donors “while profiting from dark money.”

Eric Greitens claims to be an outsider, but he’s set up an elaborate scheme to operate outside Missouri’s laws governing campaign finance – that raises the question whether he has the qualifications, temperament, and character to be Missouri’s governor,” said Temple. “We filed these ethics complaints to expose Greitens’ efforts to conceal donors and coordinate the activities of dark money sources in an attempt to evade disclosure. After all, if Eric Greitens is trying to conceal donors, they must be very shady, given that he’s taken money publicly from such questionable people.”

Temple filed complaints against LG PAC and LG PAC treasurer Richard Monsees, Frontier PAC, and SEALs for Truth.

Monsees once said the committee’s mission was to elect “anyone but Brunner,” less than a month before turning its sights on Hanaway. Monsees was spotted at a Greitens’ phone bank. Temple believes LG PAC coordinated illegally with Greitens’ campaign committee.

SEALs for Truth generated and moved the single largest donation in Missouri campaign history – $1.9 million – within a time frame which concealed donors. This is at least the second complaint regarding the federal committee.  Temple believes SEALs for Truth “engaged in a series of transactions with the intent to conceal the identity of donors in violation of Missouri law prior to the Missouri Republican primary election.”

Greitens’ campaign called the complaints an attempt to “pivot away from the corrupt and unethical behavior of Chris Koster,” Democratic nominee for governor.

“Missouri Democrats are desperate. They have already spent over $1 million trying to hijack the Republican primary to keep Eric Greitens from winning, and now they are literally just making stuff up,” said Austin Chambers, campaign manager for Eric Greitens. “These are ridiculous politically motivated filings that are designed to distract away from Chris Koster’s 20-year record of epic failure and serial corruption. These complaints are full of lies – exactly what we would expect from desperate Democrats.”
