Evidentiary hearings scheduled in Ameren rate case

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Evidentiary hearings in Ameren Missouri’s rate case will be held in February and March, the Public Service Commission (PSC) decided Wednesday.

Last month, Ameren filed the rate case asking to increase annual revenues by more than $206 million. That averages about $99 million per year for residential consumers.

The PSC will hold evidentiary hearings Feb. 27-28, March 1-3, March 6-10 and March 13-14 in the Governor Office Building.

The PSC will also hold local public hearings, but those dates, times and locations are still being finalized. A list of recommended locations can be seen here. The locations include courthouses and community centers across the areas of the state Ameren serves.

In their initial filings, Ameren listed several reasons for seeking the rate increase, including the higher rates in Midcontinent System Operator, Inc. transmission charges, higher property taxes and other cost increases.

Primarily, the company seeks to continue making investments in its infrastructure, including “projects necessitated by North American Electric Reliability Corporation and Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements.”

The company also said that the closing of Noranda has negatively affected what rates they can collect.
