Release: Gov. Nixon donates venison to Share the Harvest from 10-point buck taken in Clark County, urges other successful hunters to do the same

CLARK COUNTY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon on Saturday harvested a 10-point buck while deer hunting in Clark County on the opening weekend of firearms deer season. The Governor donated the venison to Missouri’s Share the Harvest program, a public-private partnership that provides meat to families in need.

Nixon, donated over a quarter of a million pounds of venison through Share the Harvest. Since 2009, more than 1,625,000 pounds of venison have been donated. The program is in its 25th year.

“For 25 years, Missouri hunters have helped provide meat to thousands of families in need across the state by donating venison through Share the Harvest,” have been able to have more meat on their tables, thanks to the Missouri hunters who have donated venison through Share the Harvest,” Gov. Nixon said. “I am proud to once again be one of those hunters. As firearms deer season continues, I encourage all deer hunters to visit MO.gov to learn how to share their harvest with needy families this year.”

Share the Harvest is a partnership between the Conservation Federation, the Missouri Department of Conservation, regional food banks, local food pantries, and meat processors.
