Jones has been championed by a strong contingent of supporters for months to take over longtime Mayor Francis Slay’s position, and Tuesday’s event showed that she has a vast network of contacts looking to help her eventually lead the city.

The host committee for her campaign kickoff featured over 100 people including many prominent state Democratic lawmakers, from state Sen. Jason Holsman, D-Kansas City, to Rep. Tracy McCreery, D-St. Louis, and outgoing Rep. Rochelle Walton Gray. Jones herself served as a state representative from 2008 to 2012.

The field of the race has expanded to include seven candidates. Also vying for the spot alongside Jones are state Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, St. Louis City Collector of Revenue Gregory F.X. Daly, St. Louis School Board member Bill Haas, Alderman Antonio French, Alderwoman Lyda Krewson, and President of the St. Louis Board Aldermen Lewis Reed.

St. Louis Chief of Police Sam Dotson pulled out of race last week.
