TWMP: Congressman Jason Smith; Trump and Greitens transitioning into office

On Sunday’s episode of This Week in Missouri Politics, Missouri Congressman Jason Smith joins host Scott Faughn to discuss his new role in Congressional leadership as the new House Republican Conference Secretary.

“Only four times in the last 100 years have we had this opportunity to lead, and if I’m going to be in Washington, I want to be part of it.”

He also talks about the Republican majority’s legislative priorities under a President Donald Trump administration, organized protests against Donald Trump, and joining Sen. Jeff Sessions for a chance to act as a surrogate for Trump after the Washington University debate.

On the opinion maker panel, Lou Hamilton, former Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey, former Rep. Don Gosen and Rep. Tracy McCreery, D-St. Louis, sit down with Faughn to analyze the “redneck revolution” of last week and what it means for the newly elected Republican officials.

“It was a tremendous victory on Election Night, and they’re going to have to take those majorities and do something with them,” Dempsey said.

They also talk about protests against Trump, senators to watch in the upcoming legislative session and Greitens’ transition into office, even garnering some support from the Democrats on the panel.

“It’s great that for the first time in a long time we have a governor from St. Louis,” McCreery said. “We are the economic engine on this side of the state, and it will be great to have him there.”
