Release: Experts Endorse Senate Bills 1, 2 and 3

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Senate Bills 1, 2 and 3, sponsored by Sen. Rob Schaaf, R-St. Joseph, would expand the role of small donors in political campaigns, restrict lobbyist gifts and lobbyist bundling, and extend the cooling-off period that former officials must observe before they may work as lobbyists.

The bills have recently received a number of endorsements from well-respected advocates for influence reform:

“The bills introduced by Sen. Schaaf would help give average Missourians a greater voice in the political process while curtailing the outsized influence of special interests. In an era where records for outside spending are broken every election cycle, Missouri’s Legislature should take this important step toward returning power to the larger number of voters who can’t afford to give jumbo contributions.”
~ Brent Ferguson, Counsel at the Democracy Program of the Brennan Center for Justice

“These anti-corruption bills would reduce the outsized influence of special interests if passed. In the wake of an incredibly divisive election cycle, preventing government corruption is a rare issue that unifies Americans of all political persuasions. Sen. Schaaf continues to set the bar high for meaningful anti-corruption proposals that would benefit the people of Missouri.”
~ Dan Krassner, Political Director of Represent.Us

“Now that the election is over, Americans are asking if the plan is really to drain the swamp or if it is back to business as usual. Missourians answered with a decisive vote to clean up government, sponsored by Fred Sauer, and now Sen. Rob Schaaf is taking the lead in finishing the job.”
~ John Pudner, Executive Director of Take Back Our Republic
