Secretary Ashcroft appoints Co-Directors of Elections Division

Jefferson City, Mo. — Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced the appointments of Brandon Alexander (R) and Chrissy Peters (D) as Co-Directors of the Elections Division. As the State’s Chief Election Official, Ashcroft is committed to restoring confidence in Missouri’s elections, and these appointments signal a strong step in reestablishing relationships with local election authorities.

“One of my top priorities is working to rebuild trust and confidence in our elections,” Ashcroft said. “The appointment of Brandon Alexander and Chrissy Peters as Co-Directors of Elections should assure Missourians of our efforts to be non-partisan election administrators.”

In September, Ashcroft formed a 10-member bipartisan Election Integrity Advisory Committee. The Committee, composed of five democrat and five republican local election authorities, was formed as a way for the Secretary of State’s office to encourage working relationships and support local election authorities. The committee has met recently following the November elections to discuss next steps in reforming Missouri’s elections, including the suggestion of bringing back the use of Co-Directors of Elections.

“This move is a step forward in our election improvement process,” Ashcroft said. “Our elections may be partisan, but our elections administration will be non-partisan. It’s important for people of different political spectrums to work together in the mission to bring about honest and fair elections.”

Brandon Alexander is a native of Missouri from Scotland County and a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University. He spent four years working under State Representative Tony Dugger, the past chairman of the elections committee, and two years working with Victory Enterprises.

Chrissy Peters is a native of Missouri from Cole County and a graduate of Columbia College.  She previously worked at the Ethics Commission (2005-2008), and began her work in the Elections Division under former Secretary of State Robin Carnahan (2008-2016).
