BOLIVAR, Mo. – Since Lt. Gov. Mike Parson’s victory in the Nov. 8, 2016 elections, Republicans have vied to be selected to fill his currently vacant Senate seat.

Crawford
Rep. Sandy Crawford

The candidate appears to be Rep. Sandy Crawford, R-Buffalo, who won the 28th Senate District Republican Senate Committee’s nomination Saturday morning on the first ballot. The six-year Missouri House veteran will likely win the election in the heavily Republican and rural district. In a statement, Crawford said she was “humbled” and “honored” to receive the nomination.

“Now more than ever, our district needs a proven, conservative voice in the Capitol,” she said. “Our Republican majorities and statewide leaders have presented us with a tremendous opportunity to pass landmark bills. If elected, I will do everything I can to seize this opportunity by fighting to reduce the size of government, lower the tax burden on Missouri families, and protect our Constitutional rights.”

Crawford serves as the chair for the House Financial Institutions Committee and typically offers legislation regarding the regulation of banks. She is also committed to agriculture, and she is a member of the Missouri Farm Bureau, the Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, and the Dallas County Cattlemen’s Association.
