St. Louis NAACP to host legislative day at the Capitol

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The St. Louis County NAACP is gearing up to host its 9th annual Legislative Day at the Capitol.

The event, which takes place as an opportunity for the NAACP to make their voices heard on critical issues such as right to work, paycheck deception, public education funding, etc., is slated for Noon Tuesday, Feb. 14 in the Capitol Rotunda.

Governor Eric Greitens will be the guest speaker. Others scheduled to speak are: State Auditor Nicole Galloway, House Speaker Todd Richardson, Senator Jamilah Nasheed, Rep. Alan Green, Chairman Missouri Legislative Black Caucus, Bob Bonney, President and CEO Missouri Restaurant Association and the Honorable Sarah Steelman, Commissioner Office of Administration.

“Each year we look forward to traveling to Jefferson City to engage with our state legislators on critical issues that impact our communities,” said Esther Haywood, former state representative and St. Louis County NAACP President. “We are thrilled by the overwhelming response from both our elected officials and NAACP members that plan to be on hand for this special day. We plan to continue to make it clear the concerns of African Americans in St. Louis will be heard.”

The nationally recognized Normandy High School Chorale will kick off the event with a performance.

The public is encouraged to attend free of charge.
