KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson welcomed the new U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue to the Show-Me State this week. Friday morning in Kansas City.
Former Georgia Gov. Perdue spent Friday morning in Kansas City, visiting the Midwest just a few days after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
“Secretary Perdue and I share a common background having been raised on a family farm, running our own small businesses, and serving our country in the military,” Parson said. “He describes himself as ‘a farmer first’ and is already working with President Trump to improve working conditions for farmers and ranchers across our country.”

Last week, President Trump signed an executive order calling for a special task force to identify obstacles for agriculture growth in the U.S., including trade and immigration.
“Access to trade and a skilled agriculture workforce are priorities not only for the U.S. Department of Agriculture but for Missouri as well,” Parson said. “I am committed to working with those on the federal and state level to ensure the next generation of farmers and ranchers are well educated and have the ability to trade with other entities and countries around the world.”
Missouri Department of Agriculture Director Chris Chinn and other representatives from the Missouri agriculture industry were also present on Friday.
“As we aim to promote and protect Missouri’s number one industry, I am honored to have Lieutenant Governor Parson as a partner in advancing agriculture,” Chinn said. “Together, we will work with Secretary Perdue to ensure Missouri’s farmers and ranchers have a place at the table.”
