Newman asks for Senate staffer’s removal after anti-semitic tweet

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Senate office secretary has been called to be removed by House members for an anti-semitic tweet comparing Nazis to pro-choice individuals.

Rep. Stacey Newman, D-Clayton, issued a statement shortly after Sen. Andrew Koenig’s legislative secretary Tom Estes tweeted the picture, below.

Newman’s statement:

This afternoon I received a copy of the following tweet published today by Tom Estes, chief of staff to Missouri State Senator Andew Koenig, directed to Planned Parenthood Advocates and NARAL Prochoice Missouri.

As the senior Democrat on Children and Families Committee hearing bills this Extraordinary Session on Abortion, the Chair of the House Progressive Caucus and an outspoken Jewish legislator whose husband’s family members are Holocaust survivors, I am appalled and offended.

There is no place in the Missouri legislature for blatant anti-Semitism such as this and I call on Senator Koenig, sponsor of SB5 during this special session, to remove Tom Estes from his staff.

I am horrified particularly on behalf of the Jewish advocates who testified against SB5 in the Capitol these past few weeks, including Rabbi Jonah Zinn of Shaare Emeth Congregation in St. Louis, Burt Newman and many from the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis.

Anti-semitism is not acceptable and must not be tolerated anywhere in the Missouri Capitol.
