JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — In response to Governor Eric Greitens’ call for state government to review the more than 113,000 regulatory requirements that are currently on state books, the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) is leading the charge to cut red tape that impedes businesses from growing and creating jobs. DED is reaching out to business organizations across the state to learn how government can be less burdensome.
“Businesses should take this opportunity to let us know how the state can work better for them so that we can together grow Missouri’s economy,” said Rob Dixon, Acting Director of the Department of Economic Development. “Businesses should be focusing on what they do best—running their business and not how to jump over hurdles.”
To make it easier for the public to review and comment, DED created a webpage that includes the divisions’ regulations, links to the current rules in the Code of State Regulations and an online comment tab that simplifies the review process for interested citizens. DED will also hold public events throughout the state to provide businesses the opportunity to comment in person. The rules review webpage is at: https://ded.mo.gov/nomoredtape
Sections of the Missouri Code of State Regulations deal with these Department of Economic Development divisions, which are all under review: Economic Development Programs, Division of Business and Community Services, Missouri Housing Development Commission, Division of Workforce Development, the Small Business Regulatory Board, Division of Energy, and the Public Service Commission.
