Ellington favors NAACP travel advisory

Rep. Brandon Ellington, D-Kansas City, released the following statement Thursday favoring the NAACP’s travel advisory:

“The travel advisory issued by the NAACP is a warning to citizens and those individuals who plan on visiting this state of the harsh reality that Missouri not only recognizes discrimination, but endorses it. We have seen a number of racially charged protests centered around the consistent lack of concern for the lives of so-called minorities. We have seen our Flagship University enrollment drop tremendously due to the University’s failure and lack of willingness to address racial issues directly. We have seen the state deprive its most vulnerable citizens of necessary care and support while solidifying in law the right to discriminate. When encountering a state that openly and shamelessly endorses racism, one should be cautious in their travels. I am in complete agreement with the stance the NAACP has taken in their effort to protect so-called minority citizens not only in the state of Missouri, but across the nation.
