Rep. Miller withdraws from floor leader’s race

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. – At the House Republican’s summer caucus Saturday, Rep. Rocky Miller withdrew from the House floor leader’s race.

He released the following statement to The Missouri Times:

“After careful consideration, I have made the decision to withdraw my name from consideration for Floor Leader. Expanding business requirements have made it clear that I have to prioritize my time to best take care of my family.

With an accelerated Floor Leader election, I simply don’t have the time to run a Leadership Campaign that would ensure that I could personally talk to all of you about your needs. I do not feel like I can run a proper campaign and would not feel proud about my effort.

I apologize to all that felt I would best serve the Caucus as Floor Leader, but I have to take care of my family first. I hope you will understand. I look forward to continuing serving you as a Committee Chair and as always your friend.

The race has accelerated due to current floor leader Rep. Mike Cierpiot being nominated to run for state senate. The election is in November.

Rep. Kirk Mathews and Rep. Rob Vescovo are the two remaining announced candidates.
