Former OA Commissioner Doug Nelson joins Lathrop Gage

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Doug Nelson, former Commissioner for the the Missouri Office of Administration,  will join Lathrop Gage law firm September 1. Nelson will contribute to the firm as an of counsel attorney in their office in Jefferson City. Following his time as commissioner, Nelson worked as a Senior Advisor for Missouri State Auditor, his most recent job for the State.

During his five years in the Office of Administration, he oversaw the state’s budget and a staff responsible accounting, city planning, facilities, purchasing, risk management, personnel, and information technology.

Under Gov. Jay Nixon, he led the governor’s e-government initiative, which was responsible for the state’s cyber security and data analytics, enterprise improvements, legacy system replacement, and e-goverment systems. His work paved the way for other states to follow his example.

Nelson was a member of the pension board and worked with various branches of government on issues of health care, including Medicaid. Specifically, he managed the construction contracts for the Fulton State Hospital and the Echo Bluff State Park.

The former Commissioner was elected president of the National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) in 2015 and 2016. During those years, he led the 42 person team.
