Kansas City buses offering free rides on Election Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Buses in the Kansas City region won’t cost a penny during the upcoming Election Day, held on Tuesday, Nov. 7. That’s because, just like last year, RideKC routes serving Kansas City, Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Independence will offer free fares all day to make it easier for citizens to vote. KCATA and Johnson County paratransit will also be free to ride.

“Exercising the right to vote is so important that we want to make it as easy as possible to get to the polls,” Kansas City Area Transportation Authority President and CEO Robbie Makinen. “We are grateful to our regional transit partners in Johnson County, Independence, and KCK for agreeing to again make this a truly regional transit initiative.”

“Kansas City, Missouri voters have the opportunity to significantly impact our transportation infrastructure with their vote on November 7. I am grateful to the KCATA and RideKC for providing free rides on Election Day to ensure all voters can make their voices heard,” Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James said.

This year’s election day ballot will include the issue of a new Kansas City International airport terminal, with some voters also casting their ballots in the special elections for Senate District 8, a three-way race between Rep. Mike Cierpiot (R), Hillary Shields (D), and Jacob Turk (I) as well as House District 23, featuring another three-prong race between Barbara Anne Washington (D), David Martin (R), and Daniel Trott (Green).
