Driskell resignation gives Greitens fifth seat to appoint on Board of Education

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Joe Driskill announced he will be resigning from the Missouri Board of Education (BOE) on November 9. Governor Eric Greitens has faced heavy resistance from the BOE as three candidates have withdrawn from consideration and he has been trying to replace Education Commissioner Margie Vandeven. Driskill’s resignation allows Greitens the opportunity to have five appointments to the eight-person board.

In Driskill’s resignation letter, he said that he wanted to focus more time on his job as the state’s military advocate. Driskill was the state’s first appointment to the agency responsible for Missouri’s military installations, agencies, and the state’s defense industries. He also mentioned that he was a senior member of “a national organization of defense communities” that required much of his time to be in Washington, D.C.

“My service on the State Board of Education has been an honor and a privilege,” he wrote to Greitens. “I hope I contributed the Board’s critical role of ensuring that the 900,000 children in Missouri have access to the best quality of education our state can provide.”
