Voter Protection Advocates Gear Up to Support Voters on Election Day in Missouri

866-OURVOTE Hotline Will be Live on Election Day

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Voter protection advocates in Missouri are prepared to assist voters who have questions about their voting rights or face difficulties at the polls in light of new Photo ID requirements put in place in the state this year. With elections taking place in several jurisdictions Missouri, including St. Louis and Kansas City, the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition has a three-pronged voter protection operation to educate voters about the new requirements and track their experiences voting under the new law. The effort will be supported by A. Philip Randolph Institute, the Missouri State Conference of the NAACP, Advancement Project’s national office, and the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition.

Tuesday’s effort will include poll monitors who will distribute voter rights information, visit polling locations, conduct trainings, field questions from voters dialing the hotline, and are available to assist voters in real time. The Missouri Voter Protection Coalition has produced a know-your-rights palm card outlining the requirements of the new law and other voter rights. Volunteers will be distributing these cards to voters at the polls in select locations on Tuesday.

Voters are encouraged to call the Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) to report their experience voting, if they have any questions or if they encounter problems at the polls. Voters are especially encouraged to call to report their experience voting under the new photo ID requirements. As always, voters can also call if they encounter intimidation or other forms of discrimination at the polls. There will be trained volunteers available to troubleshoot problems.

Voters are also asked to submit an account of their experience voting using the Coalition’s short voter survey, which can be found here.
