Today, work began on a strong conservative agenda, including several of the Governor’s key priorities, such as greater protections for Missouri’s foster kids, tax reform for working families, and support for law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, and veterans.
“We’re going to get even more results for Missouri families this year,” said Governor Greitens. “We’re protecting Missouri’s kids in foster care. We’re supporting our law enforcement and military families. We’re taking on special interest carve-outs in the tax code to put more money back in the pockets of working families. I’m proud to know that legislators are standing with us to push this bold agenda for Missouri families.”
Legislative leaders also expressed support for this bold conservative agenda.
“We came to Jefferson City to get results for Missouri families, and that’s what we’re going to do,” said House Speaker Todd Richardson. “We’re taking action on important issues. Members of the House have filed bills today that increase educational opportunities, improve economic growth, and cut burdensome regulations and barriers to innovation. I look forward to working with the Governor and House members to get these priorities passed.”
Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard also expressed support. “The Senate is committed to finding ways to foster and stimulate economic growth and create more jobs. We will be working with the Governor and House to fix our broken tax code, support law enforcement and military families, and protect the children in our foster care system. We will focus on legislation that will get valuable results and increase the quality of life for families across the state.”
Senate Majority Floor Leader Mike Kehoe released the following statement. “We have a great opportunity this year. By pushing for real reforms to Missouri’s tax code, we can make a lasting difference for businesses and families. We’re looking forward to working with the Governor, and our colleagues in the Senate and House to craft policies that will make our state a better place to live.”
Rep. Rob Vescovo, the newly elected House Majority Floor Leader, also released a statement supporting these conservative priorities. “House members have a proven track record of supporting policies that cut the bureaucratic red tape that too often stifles growth and innovation, reform our system of education so that young people in all parts of our state have an opportunity to learn and succeed, and provide the tools and support to law enforcement and our first responders that allow them to do their jobs as they protect and serve our communities. These are issues our Republican caucus cares deeply about, and we are ready to work with the Governor this session to get these priorities passed.”
