Former U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) Tax Division Trial Attorney, Mark C. Milton, has left Husch Blackwell to start his own St. Louis-based tax resolution law firm, MCM Law LLC. Milton’s new firm specializes in civil and criminal tax controversies, as well as federal white collar criminal defense.
“I am excited to focus my solo practice on helping troubled taxpayers resolve their tax problems,” Milton said. “Many people can feel overwhelmed by their IRS situation and too often bury their head in the sand, hoping their tax problems will just go away. They won’t.” Milton further stated, “My job is to educate my clients on their options based on my IRS experience to provide diligent representation at a reasonable price, and to achieve the best possible outcome.”
Milton, who received his accounting degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will also offer year-round tax return preparation services to individuals, families, and small businesses. After graduating from law school at St. Louis University, Milton was chosen to participate in the DOJ’s prestigious Attorney General’s Honors Program in Washington, D.C., where he represented the IRS in complicated tax matters throughout the country. For his efforts, Milton earned the DOJ Tax Division’s Outstanding Trial Attorney Award in 2013.
After returning home to the St. Louis area in 2014, Milton spent the last three years practicing with Husch Blackwell’s Government Compliance, Investigations, and Litigation team, where he worked with former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, Catherine Hanaway, and the region’s current top federal prosecutor, Jeffrey Jensen.
“Along with former federal prosecutor, Matthew Schelp, I was fortunate to spend the last few years working alongside some of the best attorneys in the business,” Milton said about his time at Husch Blackwell.
