Bob Huston announces candidacy for presiding commissioner of Cass County

Cass County Assessor Bob Huston has announced his candidacy for Presiding Commissioner of Cass County.

Huston was appointed to his current position in 2007 by Governor Matt Blunt and has since been re-elected by the citizens of Cass County in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

Since he took office in 2007, with no reserve in the office budget, the assessor’s office now has over $600,000 in reserve funds. Under Huston’s direction, the office has added additional appraisal computer software which has allowed them to reduce staff by almost half through natural attrition. Huston stated, “Since being elected, we added online filing for personal property disclosure which makes it easier for Cass County Citizens and saves time and money in our office. My major goal as commissioner is to work on getting the county out of debt and continuing the effort of promoting Cass County as a great place to work, live, and to raise a family.”

“During my time as the assessor, it has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Cass County,” he said. “The voters have continually reaffirmed their support of me and my abilities, and I have always worked to put our community’s needs first. In my years of public service, I have learned that government can be run not only efficiently, but also in a fiscally responsible and accountable manner. The people of the county have placed their trust in me thus far, and I hope they will continue to trust me to serve in the position of Presiding Commissioner.”

Huston is proud to have lived and worked all of his life as a citizen of Cass County. Born in Harrisonville, Huston received his Associate Degree in Business Management from Longview Community College. He and his wife, Jodie, have been married for 25 years and they have two daughters: Abbey, 20 and Kailey, 22. Both Abbey and Kailey attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Kailey, his eldest daughter, recently married Monty Saunders of King City. The Huston family attends Harrisonville Community Church.

Along with his duties as County Assessor, Huston likes to stay involved in his community, a value he learned as an Eagle Scout.  He is active with the five local chambers of commerce and he is also a current board member of the Harrisonville Christian School Foundation. In the past, he was a member of both the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club, in addition to serving as an active member of the Harrisonville Athletic Booster Club and Life Choice Center.

Huston stated, “I believe my long-standing ties to the local community, as well as my performance as Cass County Assessor qualifies me to serve as the next Presiding Commissioner. I have lived and worked among the community all of my life, and I am uniquely positioned to represent the people in this community and their interests.”

When he is not busy with his work duties and community involvement, Huston is an avid outdoorsman—enjoying nature by camping, boating, running and snow skiing.

Huston has retained Axiom Strategies to consult on his race for Cass County Presiding Commissioner.
