JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Braving the ice and winter weather, credit unions from all over the state of Missouri gathered in Jefferson City on Tuesday.
It was the annual Credit Union Day at the Capitol where attendees talk legislation, issues, meet lawmakers and more.
“It was fantastic to be introduced on the House floor,” Amy McLard, Executive Director of Advocacy for the Heartland Credit Union Association, named as her highlight of the day. “There were so many of us there, ready to take action, braving the weather.”
While more than 100 registered to attend the event, the weather threw things for a loop.
“We had between 80 to 85 show up,” McLard said. Though some probably left early due to the weather.
The day included HCUA advocacy staff briefing credit union advocated on issues impacting credit unions, Missouri Times publisher Scott Faughn sharing insights and tips for legislative outreach, and credit unions visiting lawmakers in their offices. The day also included a House Financial Services leadership question and answer session with Reps. Lyndall Fraker and Mary Nichols.
McLard said they are following a number of bills this year, from legislation that covers data breaches and the filing of false document to foreclosure proceedings.
Based on Twitter posts, it seemed that those who braved the weather had an enthusiastic advocacy-packed day.
