DeVerne Lee Calloway Award looking for nominations

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — DeVerne Lee Calloway Award is now accepting nominations and the Women Legislators of Missouri are encouraging constituents to submit nominations for the prestigious award that recognizes outstanding female leaders in Missouri.

Women currently serving in the General Assembly are not eligible. Those who have been submitted previously but who have not been selected as an honoree may be nominated again. Nominations must be submitted, or postmarked, by 5 p.m. on April 2, 2018.

The Award is in honor of DeVerne Lee Calloway. First elected to the Missouri House in 1962, Calloway is honored as the first African-American member of the Show-Me State’s General Assembly. There she made hard-fought gains for education, for children, and for the blind, the disabled, and the elderly. Calloway served nine terms in the legislature before retiring in November of 1980.

Nomination for the award can be submitted via email to tracy.mccreery@house.mo.gov or mailed to Representative McCreery, State Capitol, Room 130 DB, 201 West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65101. The award will be presented to the one individual winner at the Women Legislators of Missouri reception the afternoon of Monday, April 30, 2018.
