Christina Smith in race to represent Missouri in US Senate

One bold woman among Missouri’s U.S. Senate candidates, Christina Smith, from Jefferson City is listed as the first Republican woman. Smith has started her campaign by proclaiming she would be making history as the “first Republican woman” in Missouri’s U.S. Senate seat.

Many young girls dream about becoming the first female president. Smith had the same desire and frequently discussed plans with her mother. Smith’s childhood plans were taken to heart – her mother placed a banner proclaiming “the first female president” at Smith’s graduation party.

“I was a little embarrassed, but it seemed to make my mom happy to do it.  I just went with the flow and didn’t think too much about it. Strangely, I remember wondering what I would do with a political science degree. I just let God take the lead and here I am.”

Smith is considered an underdog, serving as legislator assistant to Missouri Representative Ken Wilson, a Republican from Clay County. She has served the public for almost twenty years; most for the House of Representatives and some with the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

If you ask her to list reasons she is running she replies, “I want to be an open book for the people – tell the truth and share my life. I want to continue to help people in a bigger way.  I know I can do that by running for U.S Senate.”

Smith believes that everyone’s life is valuable and leaders should take those lives seriously when governing. As an assistant to a busy legislator, she is effective in serving and fighting for the public’s needs. She indicates that people are in dire need of truth. She personally wants more collaboration among agencies to end human trafficking, make services more efficient and to make life better for farmers.

Interestingly, Smith has assisted with several very successful campaigns for Senator Roy Blunt, Caleb Jones, Representative Ken Wilson, Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, Congressman Blaine Lutcktemeyer, and several others.

“I sort of just fell into campaign work. But I would spend hours and hours helping. I was told I had been number in making calls for Roy in central Missouri.” She continued to share, “My daughters would help in parades. They still remember being apart of the process.”

While Smith runs for U.S. Senate, she will also continue to raise her three daughters.  She is a graduate of Lincoln University where she obtained her degree in political science and minor in legal studies.  She is also certified to mediate family and civil mediations. Smith serves at St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Jefferson City and is chairman of the Social Concerns Committee.   She is currently working on a masters in theology.
