Tax cuts, the governor, and more on This Week in Missouri Politics

An all opinion panel dives right in to tax cuts and policy on This Week in Missouri Politics with Scott Faughn on Sunday, April 8.

On Wednesday, the Missouri House spend four hours perfection Speaker Pro Tem Elijah Haahr’s tax cut bill. The week before the Senate perfected Sen. Bill Eigel’s version of tax cuts.

“If I had to handicap the thing, I don’t think we pass a tax bill this year,” said former state Sen. Jim Lembke. “But I think the conversation is good. I think what we need to bring to the table is, unlike what Kansas did, how we downsize government. We need to look at the cutting of government.

“If you are going to address revenues, you have to address the spending side of the equation.”

Rep. Jean Evans believes both bills have a good shot at getting through their respective chambers but doesn’t know if they can get through the other side.

With the House committee investigating Gov. Eric Greitens expect to release their report in the coming week, the panel didn’t shy away from the topic.

“Well don’t know what’s in it, and that will determine what happens after that,” said Evans. “I would say there is a lot of apprehension. There have been rumors flying around since who knows when and they keep intensifying.”

Tune in on Sunday for the full broadcast as the opinion maker panel — which also includes Sam Gladney and Rep. Nick Schroer — also takes Raise the Age, updating the Sunshine Law, Josh Hawley, and more.
