Greitens announces additional funding for veterans homes

Today, Governor Eric Greitens announced that the Missouri Veterans Commission has secured a total of over $25 million from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs for construction projects at Missouri Veterans Homes. Funding for these projects is included in the VA’s State Home Priority Construction Grant List for 2018.

“We’ve been working to improve our Veterans Homes, because the Missourians in our care have served and sacrificed for all of us, and they deserve the highest quality of care. We’re working to make Missouri the best state in the country for veterans, and this extra funding will help to get that done,” said Governor Greitens.

With this funding, MVC will make significant improvements at the three homes awarded grants. Projects to be completed include the following:

  • MVH – Cape Girardeau received one grant of $8,703,163.21.

o   MVH-CG will be able to conduct an extensive renovation that replaces many components dating to the home’s original construction almost three decades ago.

o   Projects include flooring, HVAC, doors, windows, walls, kitchen, dining areas, nursing units, laundry, nurse call, fire alarm, pavilion and storage.

  • MVH – St. James received one grant of $3,732,081.60.

o   MVH-SJ will complete projects that were originally appropriated funding in FY 2014/2015, but were on hold until federal funding became available.

o   Projects include kitchen, flooring, walls, doors, bathrooms, nurse call systems and fire alarms.

  • MVH – St. Louis received two grants totaling $13,103,368.21.

o   This funding will allow MVH-SL to continue its ongoing transformation and address quality of care issues related to the condition of the physical facility.

These grants will accelerate improvements already underway at Missouri Veterans Homes. Construction projects are currently ongoing with exclusively state funds at homes in Cape Girardeau, Mexico, St. Louis, and Warrensburg.
