Taylor joins race for assistant floor majority leader

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Gentleman from Christian is the latest to throw his hat into the race for a House leadership position.

Rep. Jered Taylor

Rep. Jered Taylor sent out a letter declaring his intentions to seek the post of Assistant Floor Majority Leader, putting him in, at least, a four-way battle. Reps. Shamed Dogan, J. Eggleston, and Shane Roden have all declared their intention to seek the position.

“Our caucus worked through some of the toughest times any legislature can face and we were led by a great leadership team,” Taylor wrote in a letter to the Republican caucus. “We have one of the largest incoming freshman classes that we have seen in years and we will need to continue to have a leadership team that brings us together and moves us forward.

“We had the most successful legislative year this year because we stood strong together. My desire is to continue the success we saw this year by supporting you and our leadership.”

Taylor was first elected to the House in 2014, and then was re-elected in 2016. He served as chairman of the Subcommittee on Tax Credit Review and vice-chairman of Subcommittee on Appropriations – General Administration. In the last legislative session, he pushed for changes to labor reforms and his bill requiring consent for union withholdings from paychecks was signed by the governor.

In his letter to colleagues, Taylor highlights his work with the caucus with assisting the freshman class on learning the Rules and Procedures of the House, including attending the Freshman Tour, Floor Debate Training, and Committee Procedure Training.

“I hope to continue to serve the caucus as Assistant Floor Leader. In this position I plan to continue to assist the incoming freshman as well as you when it comes time for bill prep and debate. I will assist Rob Vescovo in ensuring members are prepared for debate on their bills and assist with amendment prep,” wrote Taylor.
