Echols to challenge Rep. Mike Moon in primary

Karen Echols of Verona is running against Mike Moon in the August 7th, Republican primary.

Echols grew up on a farm south of Aurora and attended school in Aurora and Monett. She graduated from MSU with a Bachelor’s in Education and is currently employed by the Mt. Vernon School District.

Echols has spent her life working with young children and in education and also greatly enjoys helping on the family farm.

Supporting public schools is one of her biggest priorities along with keeping Lawrence County the top producer of beef cattle in the state.

The decision to run was because she believes there are a lot of good people left out of political conversations because it has become so divisive.

She likes to emphasize what unites us, rather than what divides us. When she gets to Jefferson City, Echols wants to focus on bread-and-butter issues that impact the lives of her constituents.

In addition to education and agriculture, her focus will also be on strengthening our Prescription Drug Monitoring Program to help end the opioid epidemic while protecting privacy, creating a budget that encourages development and innovation while providing living wage jobs, and finding pathways for people to choose work over welfare.

Echols appreciates that she grew up in one of the best places in the country for raising kids and raising cows.

She is committed to helping continue that tradition by working hard with everyone who’s serious about finding real solutions to our challenges and intends to work smart when it comes to being on the lookout for good opportunities to promote and sustain our small towns, our businesses, and all of our livelihoods.
