Rep. McCann Beatty headed to new role in Jackson County

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – House Minority Floor Leader Gail McCann Beatty is departing from the Missouri House of Representatives. The House leader of the Democrats announced this month that she would be taking on the role of Director of the Assessment Department in Jackson County.

“While many know Gail as the current Minority Leader in the Missouri House of Representatives, they may not know that she grew up in the appraisal business and has been a certified appraiser for 25 years,” said Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. “I could not be more grateful and excited that someone with her tremendous skills, experience and qualifications has agreed to join our team.”

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Jackson County as the Director of Assessment,” said McCann Beatty. “Proper assessments assure that there is adequate funding to provide vital services to the county. I look forward to taking a hands-on approach to educating citizens about the assessment process.”

In addition to her time as a state lawmaker, McCann Beatty has decades of experience working at McCann Beatty Valuation and Consulting, as well as serving on the Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission.

“I want to commend County Executive White for selecting such a talented and dedicated public servant to serve as Jackson County’s next Director of Assessment,” said Missouri State Senator Shalonn “Kiki” Curls. “I am confident that Gail will serve the people of Jackson County honorably, just as she has done in Jefferson City.”

McCann Beatty, a Kansas City native, graduated from Pembroke Hill High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stanford University. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2010, chosen by her peers as Assistant Floor Leader in 2012 and Minority Floor Leader in 2016.

Democrats will be holding a fundraiser in Kansas City next week where they will bid farewell to the Minority Leader, with donations going to the House Victory Committee.

The event will be held on Thursday, July 19, at the Uptown Theater starting at 5:30 p.m.
