Ameren Missouri investing $13 million in natural gas enhancements

System upgrades strengthen natural gas service to customers in Columbia, Jefferson City and surrounding communities

COLUMBIA, MO. (Aug. 9, 2018) — Ameren Missouri natural gas crews are replacing aging pipe with new gas mains and services as part of a $13 million investment to upgrade infrastructure and increase the reliability of the natural gas system in central Missouri.

“These projects strengthen the reliability of our growing natural gas system in central Missouri,” said Pam Harrison, Ameren Missouri director of natural gas operations. “As these communities continue to develop, we’re building a robust infrastructure to provide a reliable supply of natural gas to meet the growing energy needs of our residential and business customers.”

Throughout 2018, a number of projects will take place across the Ameren Missouri natural gas footprint. Infrastructure improvements include:

  • Upgrading aging infrastructure with new polyethylene pipe.
  • Upgrading mains with larger gas mains to meet the demands of growing communities.
  • Looping the natural gas system together in some communities, allowing energy to be re-routed if necessary.

Harrison encourages customers to consider using natural gas when evaluating energy options for new homes or businesses. “Natural gas is a clean, affordable and efficient form of energy,” she said. “Natural gas water heaters heat nearly twice as fast, natural gas stoves provide instant, more precise temperature and natural gas dryers are cost-efficient and dry clothes even faster.”
