Ellington planning public meeting in case Urban Issues Committee addressing Crossroads is cancelled

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. and Chairman of the Special Committee on Urban Issues Courtney Curtis, D-Ferguson, has requested a committee hearing looking into the conditions within Crossroads Correctional Facility at the request of State Rep. Brandon Ellington, D-Kansas City. Chairman Curtis has asked that a hearing be scheduled on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in House Hearing Room 3.
At this time, Chairman Curtis has not received confirmation. However, in the event that he is not granted approval, Rep. Brandon Ellington has also secured a hearing room at the State Capitol for a public meeting addressing the situation at the Crossroads Facility.
“I’m not sure why they are delaying the Chairman’s request for an official interim committee hearing, however, my constituents have asked me to get answers and I refuse to let up until we have transparency,” said Ellington.
“I encourage anyone who has family members or friends at the facility, former inmates, former employees and current employees of the Crossroads Correctional Facility to come and testify. The public meeting will only convene in the event Chairman Curtis is denied his request to conduct an official committee hearing.”
Department of Corrections Director Anne Precythe and Director of Adult Institutions Alana Boyles will be invited to the Committee hearing and barring its cancellation, the public meeting.
