Doss named next Deputy City Clerk for Kirkwood

KIRKWOOD, Mo. – After five years working in the State Capitol as a legislative director, Frederick Doss is departing its halls for a new role.

Doss was recently named as the newest Deputy City Clerk of Kirkwood, serving in his hometown.

“Kirkwood helped put me on the path to civic engagement and public service,” said Doss. “I am honored to have the chance to give back, work with dedicated public servants, and help make sure local government serves all of my neighbors.”

The 29-year-old has held a number of positions since graduating from Missouri State University in 2012, from working in the Capitol to serving as a political consultant on campaigns for elected office, all while serving as a founding board member of Missouri For All and getting his Masters in Public Relations from Webster University.

Doss’ first real experience in politics came when he served as campaign manager for Jim Evans, who ran for Missouri’s 7th congressional district back in 2012. In 2013, Doss accepted a position working as a legislative assistant for Rep. Rory Ellinger, which proved to have profound impact on Doss and his career, learning the ropes under Ellinger’s fast and heavily-involved tutelage.

After working in the Capitol for a few years, Doss was named to The Missouri Times’ 30 Under 30 list this year for his community involvement. He hopes to take his experiences to Kirkwood and help provide citizens of his hometown with the services he feels they need and deserve.

“I’ve always been a big believer in open and responsive government,” said Doss. “The office of the Kirkwood City Clerk is responsible for managing and administering policies relating to City of Kirkwood records and compliance with the State’s sunshine and open meetings laws, so the Deputy City Clerk position was a natural fit. Most importantly, our office serves as a direct contact for residents wishing to express concerns about city services or issues, and I’m excited for this new and challenging position assisting the Mayor and City Council on behalf of the people in my hometown.”
