Department of Revenue Director Joel Walters presents at Governor’s Conference on Economic Development

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri Department of Revenue Director Joel Walters presented at the 2018 Governor’s Conference on Economic Development, held in Kansas City, Missouri, Sept. 5-7. This year’s conference themes were “Best in Midwest” and “Talent for Tomorrow.”

“It was an honor to speak with Missouri state COO Drew Erdmann and state Commissioner of Administration Sarah Steelman at the Governor’s Conference on Economic Development, presenting on the many ways we’re bringing real life business principles to Missouri state government to make it work better,” said Walters.

The three-day conference focused on key initiatives such as infrastructure, workforce development and the overall business environment in the state. Walters said efficient and effective state government is critical for success in all of those areas.

“I realize many people don’t get to witness it firsthand, but it’s inspiring to see how well Missouri’s state government leaders are working together to improve citizens’ lives,” said Ken Zellers, the Department’s chief operating officer, who also represented the DOR at the conference.

“Director Walters, Commissioner Sarah Steelman and state COO Drew Erdmann did an excellent job highlighting how bringing business processes to government can help make our agencies as efficient and cost-effective as possible to ensure we’re always good stewards of the people’s money.”

In addition to co-presenting at the “Bringing Best Practices to Government,” Walters moderated the “Cabinet Subcommittee on Infrastructure Panel.” This session featured cabinet members who are leading the effort to strengthen Missouri’s infrastructure for the next generation. Following the conference, Walters and Missouri Department of Transportation Director Patrick McKenna will co-chair an ongoing subcommittee to further support infrastructure initiatives throughout the state.

“One point emphasized during the conference is that economic development really is a team sport, and there’s genuinely a great deal of excitement behind that idea,” added Walters. “I’m proud of all the work currently being done across the administration that’s making us better every day, and I’m very thankful to be part of such a fantastic team.
