Missouri Office of Administration, Microsoft host two-day training for state IT professionals

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Office of Administration’s Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) and Microsoft are hosting a two-day training on Azure Government for dozens of State of Missouri information technology developers on Sept. 25 and 26 in Jefferson City.

Microsoft experts will lead hands-on sessions covering topics in Azure Government, Microsoft’s cloud computing service for governments currently used by the State of Missouri. The first day of training will cover topics such as application and database development, data and advanced analytics, and cognitive services used to improve online communication.

The second day of training allows participants to put what they’ve learned into practice. Participants will break into teams during a Hackfest and build solutions based on a series of challenges they’re given. The event concludes with final presentations and an awards ceremony.

The Microsoft training provides state IT developers the unique opportunity to learn about new and innovative technology solutions. They will enhance their application and software development skills to find creative solutions to improving the state’s IT services.

“The State of Missouri and Office of Administration are committed to the professional development of state employees and the IT training with Microsoft is an exciting example of that,” Office of Administration Commissioner Sarah Steelman said. “Our IT professionals work behind-the-scenes every day to not only maintain our IT infrastructure and services, but more importantly to find innovative and creative solutions to modern IT challenges.”

“ITSD professionals are the unsung heroes with important roles in today’s digital world. They navigate the difficulties and complexities associated with modern IT,” said Rich Kliethermes, the State of Missouri Acting Chief Information Officer. “I applaud our ITSD developers for their desire to learn and advance their skills through this training program. Their drive to better serve state government and Missourians is commendable.”

IT developers participating in the training come from the Office of Administration’s ITSD, Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Missouri Gaming Commission within the Department of Public Safety.

ITSD is the State of Missouri’s consolidated IT organization. ITSD is a team of almost 1,000 IT professionals that support the IT systems and services used by 14 executive departments and 3 elected officials in their daily operations.
